About This Item

London/USA: Greenhill Books/Stackpole Books. Paperback. Brave Men's Blood. Slight crease to corner back cover. One of the most comprehensive accounts of the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War ever published, this book is also the best illustrated. The result of years of research in Britain, Sout Africa, France, the USA and Australia, it includes 270 contemporary illustrations integrated with text providing a concise history of the Zulu state and the causes of the war. Pictures of Zulu as well as British commanders, personalities and soldiers appear, giving a balanced image of the war. The illustrations of men in action, uniforms and weapons, bring to life the experiences of soldiers from both sides, and create a sense of life in the field and the drama of the combat itself. Battles are depicted in contemporary sketches and engravings that present a unique record of the campaign. The author gives attention to aspects of the war often ignored by other works, such as the part played by Colonial troops in the fighting, and the little-known cross-border raids. Zulu and British strategy and tactics receive equal treatment. However it is the great battles themselves - Isandlwana, Rorke's Drift, Nyezane, Gingindlovu, Hlobane, Khambula and Ulundi - which take centre stage in the drama. Drawing on extensive field research, the author describes the battles with compelling clarity and vividness. Illustrated. 200 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. Academic and Scholarly books and Modern First Editions ,and all types of Educational Reference Literature.) . Very Good. Soft cover. 1st Greenhill Book/Stackpole Edited. 1996.
