About This Item

New York: Thomas Y. Crowell Company. 1977. First edition, first printing. First edition, first printing. Publisher's original black cloth with titles in silver to the spine and the author's initials in blind to the upper board, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with eight full page and four half page drawings in black, grey and white throughout. An excellent very near fine copy, the binding square and firm with just a little rubbing to the spine tips, the cloth remains bright and fresh. The contents are clean throughout and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the very lightly rubbed and creased first state dustwrapper that has a few tiny nicks, without loss at the spine tips. Not price-clipped ($7.95 to the upper front flap). A lovely example. The beloved Newbery Medal winning story of unbreakable friendship and loss, featuring two children and their imaginary magical forest kingdom of 'Terabithia'. The basis for the 2007 critically acclaimed, award winning film of the same name, directed by Gábor Csupó, starring Josh Hutcherson, AnnaSophia Robb, Bailee Madison, Zooey Deschanel and Robert Patrick. The screenplay was co-written by the author's son David L. Paterson, who inspired the original story. The Newbery Medal (of which this novel was the 1978 recipient) was the world's first children's book award, and it continues to be awarded annually. Notable past winners include 'A Wrinkle in Time' by Madeline L'Engle (1963) and 'The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle' by Hugh Lofting (1923). The first printing, issued in an edition of 7000 copies is quite scarce. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request.
