About This Item

London: John Murray, 2018. First thus, Special UK edition. Fine/Near Fine.

Brief Answers to the Big Questions examines some of the universe's greatest mysteries, and promotes the view that science is very important in helping to solve problems on planet Earth The publisher describes the book as "a selection of [Hawking's] most profound, accessible, and timely reflections from his personal archive", and is based on, according to a book reviewer, "half a million or so words" from his essays, lectures and keynote speeches

The book was incomplete at the time of Hawking's passing in March 2018, but was completed with "his academic colleagues, his family and the Stephen Hawking Estate" It includes a foreword written by Eddie Redmayne, who won an Academy Award for his portrayal of Hawking in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything; an introduction by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Kip Thorne; and an afterword by Lucy Hawking, the author's daughter

Stephen Hawking (1942 â€" 2018) was an English theoretical physicist, cosmologist, and author who, at the time of his death, was director of research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the University of Cambridge Between 1979 and 2009, he was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge, widely viewed as one of the most prestigious academic posts in the world

This copy is in black cloth with silver titles on the spine Virtually new condition, with no marks or damage at all The unclipped DJ has very slight edge wear, but is otherwise excellent There is a "Special Edition" label on the jacket front, reading "Including More Answers to the Big Questions" Thus, there are 15 extra pages (making 247 p) in this edition, beyond the standard edition (232 p)

247 pp.
