Gold titles on spine and front with embellishments on spine and embossed classical designs on front. Illustrated eps with name of previous owner on ffep. Another name and address on 1/2 title. Top edge gilt but worn. Tail slightly scuffed and corners very slightly bumped. 16 b&w plates complete. A charming little book of moralistic lessons for young readers. The 1st edition is rare.

Pages are moderately tanned and foxed throughout. Previous owner's inscription to front pastedown. Thumb-marking present. Noticeable creasing to gutter. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Light crushing to spine ends. Visible tanning to spine and edges. Water staining to boards. Textblock is shaky.

In good quarter brown lather and gilt decorated olive green cloth. The spine has gilt titles and decoration. The covers are unmarked and quite firm; corners bumped and frayed, spine ends chipped. Blue, clean pictorial end papers; field with 'This Book Belongs To', (but not filled in). Tiny red bookseller's sticker from J.J. Banks & Son, Cheltenham on front paste down. Gilt top cut edge; the fore and tail edges are age-toned; the fore edge is also deckled. The text block pages are tightly bound and foxed throughout - good condition. With b/w plates. No dedications etc. Without jacket.

London : George G. Harrap and Company, 1914. Cloth. Near Fine/Poor. 8" by 6". None. A uncommon, decorative history volume with original dustwrapper. Scarce in the dustwrapper. With plates throughout, the work focuses on several historical and mythological happenings in Britain's history. Contains a bookplate from Stimpson Avenue School, dated 1923. In decorative cloth binding with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally smart, there is some minor wear and markings to the boards, as well as some shelfwear. The dustwrapper has significant loss, is chipped and in two detached pieces. Internally, the pages are firmly bound and are generally bright and clean throughout aside from some age-toning. Near Fine
