David Bell paints many subjects, including railways, architecture and aviation but he is primarily known as a marine artist, most notably for the Sir Walter Raleigh painting for (the then) H.R.H. Charles, Prince of Wales and Humber Heritage, later in the collection of H.M. The Queen. He manages to combine great technical skill with imagination and vision to produce paintings of lasting value. His style is evocative and atmospheric, of both past and present scenes. His work has been exhibited throughout Britain and is in collections all over the world.
