London: Baxter Lewes & Chichester of B. Crosby and Co., 1809. Second Edition. Hardcover. Good +. The first edition was printed in 1807. This second edition was issued in 1809 and features a pictorial title page. 27.5 cm. Unpaginated. Newly rebound in brown leather with pink marbled paper boards. Gold lettering and design on the spine. 41 p. of plates features 29 colour etchings. Additional 106 etched figures on plates and throughout text. Some foxing and staining as well as some tears throughout the text. Tiny tear in pink paper bottom front. Marginalia at "BRE" and "SHE." Some penciling on figures of "Tugwell's Plough" and on figures of "Root Steamer," and on back flyleaf.
Title continues: "Being a New and Complete Agricultural Dictionary of Improved Modern Husbandry: With the Breeding, Feeding, and Management, of Live Stock; The Modern Art of Farriery, Cure of the Diseases of Dogs, the Management of Bees, the Culture of Fruit and Forest Trees, of Cyder, of Malt Liquor, and Made Wines. Embellished with Forty-Two Engravings." English solicitor Thomas Potts (1778-1842) also wrote agricultural reference books, including this farming dictionary compiled alphabetically with entries from Abolition of Tythes to Yorkshire-white.
