About This Item

St Paul's Bibliographies, Winchester, first edition, 1991. Laminated boards, 8vo, 21 cm,. x, 181 pp. 698 entries. A useful and interesting annotated bibliography, with the annotations "in addition to being informative, [being] designed to encourage browsing and serendipity". The scope covers "the history of libraries, librarianship and book-collecting in Great Britain and Ireland from the earliest times to the publication date. Included are monographs, theses, pamphlets, periodical articles, etc, which have been written consciously as contributions to library history. However the net has been cast wide enough to capture relevant material discovered in such works as biographies, diaries, county histories, the history of academic institutions and learned societies, and studies of domestic architecture, interior decoration and furniture." Of the 698 entries, the number of entries relating to librarians is 137, ecclesiastical libraries 55, and academic libraries 84. Private libraries, at 181 entries, still remains by far the largest category. As New.
