About This Item
London: H. Berthoud, 1825. Hardcover. Good +. [72] p., frontispiece and 19 leaves of plates; 36 cm. Contemporary black leather spine with plain grey paper over boards. The publisher intended the plate of Mrs. Siddons to be bound as the frontispiece, but here the plate of Mr. Kean was bound as the frontispiece and that of Siddons before the text about her. Contains 20 engraved portraits by R. Cooper of famous contemporary actors and dancers, including Sarah Siddons as Lady Macbeth, Edmund Kean as Richard III, Samuel Simmonds as Baron Munchausen, dancers Lisa Noblet, Felicite Hullin, and Etienne Le Blond, opera singer Giuseppe de Begnis, and Henry Gattie, Maria Theresa Bland, Sarah Booth, Frances Copeland, and Charles Young. The plates have not been hand-colored. In Good+ Condition: front board and frontispiece are detached but present; lacking leather over spine; foxing, primarily in margins of plates; otherwise, clean and solid.
