A rare, mid-19th-century huge family Bible, containing both Old and New Testaments. This Bible is filled with notes, commentary, and scriptural references by Scottish minister John Brown of Haddington. Brown's 'Self-Interpreting Bible' is considered to be one of the best Bible interpretations of the late 18th-century. It was first published in Edinburgh in 1778 and contains histories, chronologies, and simple summaries which were designed to reach to poor and inexperienced readers in Scotland.
