About This Item

New York: Hastings House, Publishers, 1961. [1961] FIRT EDITION hardcover and dustjacket. Yellow binding with illustration of baseball players on top cover, 157 pages. Condition of hardcover: Old cello tape remains on endpapers; several page corners creased; edges age toned; else overall Very Good. No smoker's smell from cigarettes or cigars. Dustjacket: Price clipped on flap. Chips, short tears, creases to extremities. Light wear/soiling and age toning (especially at folds); else overall Good. Protected in Mylar cover. The hero of this professional baseball story is Bob Thomas, a young pitcher who finally gets his chance with a major ball club. Before he has time to get his uniform and practice, he is traded to another club. So begins the story -- with plenty of action on the diamond, a real look into professional baseball problems, lots of colorful atmosphere and chatter, and a non-stop plot. The author is a born story-teller who knows how to make his characters as colorful and convincing as they would be on the diamond. It's wonderful reading for children and teens. Uncommon book, and very collectible. NOT A MORE RECENT REPRINT; THIS IS THE 1961 FIRST EDITION. Note: We are a well-established, well-respected, ethical book dealer in business since 1991. We describe the condition of our books thoroughly and honestly, so you'll know exactly what you will be receiving when you order. We ship promptly. . First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Illus. by Frank Kramer.

About R. Siedlecki Vintage Books

We are a well-established, well-respected dealer that is professional, honest, and ethical in our business dealings. We tend to describe each book in a reserved, conservative manner, rather than oversell a book or sidestep the responsibility of addressing its flaws. Book club editions and library books along with books without dustjackets (if they came with dustjackets) are pointed out in our descriptions. We describe our books in detail, pointing out the precise condition of each book based on our opinion. It's your assurance that the book we describe is as close as possible to the book you’ll receive. In business since 1991, we typically have five-star ratings on major web sites.
