New York/Toronto: Farrar & Rinehart, 1942. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good. Dramatic play by the beloved American poet based on the true story of a Nazi-led mass bonfire in which 25,000 books were burned by university students across Germany on 10 May 1933. Orig. broadcast on May 11th as a radio play over the Red Network of the National Broadcasting Company, & proved so successful that it was translated into other languages & rebroadcast around the world. It's time for a revival in the United States. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing from 1942 by Farrar & Rinehart, in 25 pages + a 2-page Foreword by the Writer's War Board. Hardcover small 8vo (5.5" x 8.25") has red paper-covered boards lettered in black in an inset title box to front cover. Condition is VG: completely clean inside with mild external soil & spotting. Closed tear to head of spine, mild rubbing to extremities. Tanning to front endpapers from folded piece of paper which has a typed poem about war of unknown authorship entitled "Why?" Binding strong & straight, pages creamy white with moderate tanning, commensurate with age & wartime paper quality.
