About This Item

Hamish Hamilton, Melbourne, 2014. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: photographs & reproductions of artworks & double page map. Map of Australia, notes, appendix, select bibliography, photo credit and index stop photographic end pages, showing the bark of a scribbly gum. Between pages 196 and 197 there are 34 pages of colour and black-and-white photographs and illustrations. Red coloured boards with white coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Photographic dustwrapper (wraparound) with black and red coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Colour photograph of author to the rear fold over panel. The author explores the bush as it was, and that it is now, good things that have happened in the damning things, the commonplace and the bizarre, the stories we like to tell about ourselves and the national character, and the things that we don't talk about. – At once magisterial in scope and aligned with telling, wry detail, the book lets us see our landscape and its inhabitants a new, examining what we have made, what we have destroyed, and what we have become in the process. – My paraphrasing the front fold over blurb. Minor rubbing of the book corners and back strip corners; with, light age toning of the text block edges and pages. A little creasing of the top dust wrapper edge with rubbing of the panels. Full number line. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. XII, 427, [9] pages, illustrated and pages, colour illustrated dust jacket, the book contains chapter notes, a select bibliography, photo, & index. It is clean and without annotation, and the dustjacket shows no damage.. Please refer to accompanying picture (s). Illustrator: photographs & reproductions of artworks & double page map.
