He extends Frye's concept of the Canadian identity battling the hostile wilderness and climate into an literary exploration, by contemporary writers, that seeks the reconciliation of man & nature. The author won a Governor General's Award for poetry for his 1977 'Under the Thunder of Flowers'. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 197 pages with index. The brown boards have very gentle bumping to 2 corners, and a very amount of slight soiling to page ends. White, illustrated DJ has minor edge wear with a few short tears at corners. SIGNED by Jones on half title page & INSCRIBED to Sylvia Du Vernet, Toronto academic & writer, on inside front page. Includes 1970 newspaper review clippings from the T.O. Star (George Woodcock) & the Globe & Mail (Peter Buitenhuis).
