About This Item

1st edition Limited 439/1,001, 291p., frontispiece, illustrations, top edge gilt.

Gwinnett accomplished enough in life to merit a biography, but his real fame lies in his status as a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Several factors, including his relative obscurity and his death soon after the signing of the Declaration, make Gwinnett the rarest of almost any signature of Americana. There are only a couple dozen known examples. Author Isaac Azimov even wrote a sci-fi short story about crazed collectors and their attempts to use time travel to get their hands on a Button Gwinnett autograph.

This limited edition biography is not as rare as the signature, but it is very uncommon in this condition. Usual toning, but wonderfully clean; pages uncut; near fine condition!
