Lavishly illustrated throughout with 97 in-text and full-page monochromes reproducing some of Henri Matisse's artwork, this double-issue of Christian Zervos' "Cahiers d'Art" is a splendid monograph on a major figure in modern art.

Indeed, Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Picasso, as one of the artists who best helped to define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the opening decades of the 20th century, responsible for significant developments in painting and sculpture.

This monograph contains the following texts on Henri Matisse written by some of the most prestigious contributors of the period:

- Notes sur la formation et le développement d'Henri-Matisse, text in French by Christian Zervos

- Matisse et le corps féminin, text in French by Paul Fierens

- Poésie d'Henri-Matisse, text in French by Pierre Guéguen

- Henri-Matisse, text in German by Curt Glaser

- Henri-Matisse, text in German by Will Grohmann

- Henri-Matisse, text in French by Georges Salles

- Henri-Matisse, text in English by Georges Fry
