Glasgow, John Smith and son Ltd, 1933 Hardcover book, second edition? Large, 34cm x 26 cm. An unusual volume originally published in Egypt, telling the story of a trip across the Libyan desert by the XIIth Royal Lancers a distance of over eleven hundred miles. This is together with the history and geography of the region post first world war. Illustrated with drawings, beautiful woodcuts and two tipped in photographic plates . The second of these , a picture of the sand dunes, has suffered from some off-setting onto the blank page opposite but is still visible, Following the 110 pages of narrative, illustrations and sayings, quotations etc is a section of black and white photographs of the journey including pictures of the Rolls Royce armoured cars. A double page fold-out map of the expedition's route is present plus a coloured street map of part of Cairo. A Fascinating book in Very Good condition. Slight stretch to prelim hinge but binding firm.Pictures available.
