About This Item

New York: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1961. This is the true first edition. Memoir of treasure hunting expedition in Africa, with 8 pages of photos. Very good- (faintly sunned cover edges and spine bottom; foxed front pastedown and ffep; less so on rear pastedown) in fair dust jacket (price-clipped and edgeworn, spine chipped, foxed back panel and interior of dj) . Margaret Lane was at one time the highest-paid British woman journalist but is perhaps best-known for her two books about Beatrix Potter which became the basis for the later BBC film, "The Tale of Beatrix Potter." She also wrote more than two dozen books of which this is the frank, often humorous tale of a misguided, amateur, and somewhat foolish search for buried diamonds in Mozambique in east Africa, financed and "led" by her husband the Earl of Huntingdon. 212 pages plus the photos and 4 maps. Good photo of the author on the dust jacket.. 1st Edition. Hard Cover.
