Limited to 550 copies, [11.25x7.75in]; x, 64 pp., [1] colophon, Frontispiece portrait of Commodore Stockton, nine facsimiles and lithographs, with four in color; Light blue paper boards with gilt lettering and border on darker blue background design on front, black cloth back strip with black lettering on light blue paper label, edges untrimmed; Some shelf wear to surfaces, edges and corners, bottom corners bumped and worn through, rubbing on spine edges, some fading and soiling of covers [Grabhorn 209, This book is about six letters that describe life in California before the Gold Rush. In addition, there are biographical sketches of the people mentioned in the letters. This is one of the Fifty Books of the Year and part of the Second Series of Rare Americana No. 5.
