About This Item
California: Its Gold and Its Inhabitants by Sir Henry Vere Huntley. Sir Henry Vere Huntley was an English lord who spent most of his life in Africa and the New World. He was once the governor of Prince Edward Island, but was forced into bankruptcy due to imprudent business ventures in California, such as the Dicksburg Mine in Yuba County, during the Gold Rush. This is Sir Henry's account of his life and times in California, first published in London in 1856, and now reprinted and updated with more than 150 period illustrations, documents and photographs. "For anyone with an interest in the California Gold Rush era, the Huntley journal is an invaluable resource." Edmund G. Brown, Jr. (Governor of California) Illustrated 2003 Edition; 240 pages; 8½ x 11; Illustrated; Index, ISBN 1-887694-52-8
