Whittier, and many others. A very nice copy of a scarce title.

Contains the "Autobiographic Note & Response" by Whitman in which he alludes to this Quaker forebears and demurs to making after dinner remarks. With Whitman's own advertisement for his books on p. 74. There is foxing to the tissue guard of the frontispiece; else very nearly fine. Myerson notes that there were "1,000 copies printed, with Whitman receiving one of the first on 28 October, 1889" [Myerson, D17] (Myerson D-17). Near Fine binding.
