About This Item

London: The Thriller Book Club, Collins, 1951. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Good Only. 7.5" by 5". None. An uncommon issue of Agatha Christie's adventure thriller, inspired by her own trips to Baghdad with her second husband. Published by Collins' 'Thriller Club' imprint the same year as her true first edition issued by the Crime Club. Whilst Agatha Christie is widely known for her popular detective fiction, with such influential characters as Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple, Christie also wrote a small selection of novels belonging to the action and spy fiction genres, such as this work 'They Came to Baghdad'. This work begins in the centre of Baghdad, the city chosen for a secret summit of superpowers, all concerned but not convinced about the development of an unidentified and undescribed secret weapon. However, the secret British agent who can prove the details of this secret weapon is killed by a shadowy group who are plotting to sabotage the event. It is then up to the enthusiastic young "adventurer" Victoria Jones to decipher the agent's dying last works and save the summit. With the original unclipped dustwrapper. In the publisher's original cloth binding. With an unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart. Tape residue to the front board. Dustwrapper is sound. Chips to the extremities and a tape repair to the head of front wrap, rear wrap and internally to the head and tail of both wraps. Hole oto the spine of dustwrapper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are age toned and clean. Very Good Indeed

In this novel, Baghdad is the chosen location for a secret superpower summit. But the word is out, and an underground organisation is plotting to sabotage the talks.Into this explosive situation stumbles Victoria Jones, a young woman with a yearning for adventure who gets more than she bargains for when a wounded secret agent dies in her hotel room.
