New York: Harper and Brothers, 1877. First Edition. Octavo. First printing. 285pp., (2)pp. publisher's ads. The author writes of his time in the Civil war and the Franco-Prussian War. In 1862, he was first stationed at Hatteras during the Civil war, a horrible and wicked place. Soon he would board ship along with 3000 other men, two days out and a man had fallen ill to small pox. He describes in detail nearly every move that was made by he, the officers and troops during this war. He was appointed Assistant Secretary of Legation to Paris when the Franco-Prussian War broke out in 1870. He continues to write details of this war. A near fine copy bound in brown cloth, spine lettered ing gilt, dark brown coated endpapers. No names or bookplates. Internally fresh and very well written with much detail.
