Vancouver: University of British Columbia Press, 1978. First Edition. Octavo (23.5cm); gray cloth, with titles stamped in gilt on spine; dustjacket; xx,184, plus 8pp of illustrations. Signed by the author on the title page, and inscribed by him on the front endpaper: "For Phil and Pat / with all admiration and affection / Roy MacLaren / Toronto, July 1978." Touch of foxing and dust-soil to text edges and endpapers, spine ends gently nudged, else Near Fine. Dustjacket lightly shelfworn, with scattered foxing to verso; Very Good+ or better. Laid into this copy is a full-page ALS from MacLaren to the recipients of the inscription, who were close personal friends. The Canadian politician and historian's second book, examining Canadian military involvement in Egypt between 1882-1898.
