170, Strand, London: The Country Office, 1111. [Undated - Circa 1880 ]: This copy first has been professionally recased. Interestingly, the boards appear original, but unlike many quoted copies, this one has a floral blind design, common in the mid - later Victorian period, but no gilt adornment, other than the title to spine. This has been relaid, and binding is now totally tight and secure. The covers have been quite heavily marked and stained, but are rigid and complete. We have taken the opportunity to fit new period feel endpapers and pastedowns. The book is collated as follows: Title Page; Chapter 1; p. 5 - 224, index, 12 full page engravings, 11 of these canaries by Wood and Temple. Pages are secure, but a number with grubby marks etc but entirely legible, the plates are not blighted similarly, being clean. An interesting item, which I presume to be the earliest copy of this title. The Plates have dates as early as 1874. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾". Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo.
