About This Item

Waltham St Lawrence: printed by Robert and Moira Gibbings at The Golden Cockerel Press, 1929
. Edited by Walter Skeat, M.A. Illustrated by Eric Gill with numerous foliated and peopled borders, full- and half-page illustrations and initial letters. Initial letters printed in red and blue. One of 485 copies on paper of a total edition of 500. 4 volumes. Folio, bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe in original niger morocco-backed patterned boards, top edges gilt, others uncut. Very bright and crisp, a little fading and variation in tone of spine between volumes, as often, slight bumping to corners and rubbing to very edges of boards. ||The collaboration between Gill and the Gibbings is a rich one. This stands as one of the great works of the Press and of the twentieth century private press movement.
