About This Item

Càntic del Sol, published by Gustavo Gili in Barcelona, 1975. Translated in Catalan by Josep Carner with foreword by Maria Manent. The edition features a complete portfolio of 33 etchings with aquatints in color by Joan Miró printed on Guarro wove paper. Limited edition of 273 numbered copies, of which this copy is number 180. Each copy is signed in pencil on the justification page by Miró.. Loose sheets as issued, enclosed in original grey paper wrappers and protected in the original yellow cloth chemise within a matching clamshell box. Càntic del Sol is a praise to the Creator, originally written in the 13th century by Saint Francis of Assisi who composed this poetic celebration of nature and spirituality. The 33 etchings created by Miro, beautifully complement the text of Francesco d'Assisi, creating a harmonious blend of visual and literary art, described by Maria Manent in her foreword as 'an astonishing cosmic calligraphy'. This remarkable work connects us to a legacy of artistic and spiritual exploration, where language, imagery, and faith converge in a corresponding symphony. Ref Cramer: 196 In very good conditions, box, and chemise with light foxing. More pictures on request
