Canton is a historic waterfront neighborhood located along the south eastern section of the outer harbor in Baltimore, MD. It is south and east of Fell's Point. It was initially developed as an industrial and commercial district, and included Major David Stodder's shipyard, where the USS Constellation was built. Canton has been home to numerous waves of immigrant populations, including Welsh, Irish, Germans, Poles and Ukrainians. After languishing for some time with the collapse of its industrial base beginning in the 1970s, Canton has undergone a major revitalization (or gentrification) in recent history, and today is one of the city's trendiest areas.
