First edition, first impression, of the economist's analysis of previous explanations of trade depression and unemployment, which, he argues, had been "vitiated by certain false assumptions in regard to the relation of credit regulation to the capital market" (p. v). Ralph George Hawtrey (1879-1975), a close friend of Keynes, worked as Director of Financial Inquiries at the Treasury from 1919 to 45. Octavo. Original green cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Formulae in the text. Ex-National Union of Conservative and Unionist Associations, with stamps to pp. iv and 232. Light bumping and rubbing, short closed tear to spine head, minor marking to endpapers and edges: a very good copy.
