About This Item

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1942. First American edition. Very Good. First American edition, first printing. Bound in publisher's original black cloth with spine lettered in gilt; lacking the dust jacket. Cloth lightly worn, lightly spotted on rear panel and spine lettering dulled and rubbed. Front inner hinge exposed leaving binding a little fragile. Tape ghosts to endsheets, former owner names on front endsheets, pages toned and with light pencil markings to text. The author's best-known, important and perhaps most controversial work.
