About This Item

All our books are sanitized for your protection before mailing. SIGNED, AUTHENTIC First Edition in ORIGINAL dust jacket of Ayn Rand's "non-fiction footnote to Atlas Shrugged," Capitalism:The Unknown Ideal. Contains the first appearance in book form of 2 Rand lectures: "Conservatism: An Obituary (Princeton, 1960) and "America's Persecuted Minority: Big Business" (Ford Hall Forum, Boston, 1961) as well as articles written originally for Rand's column in The Los Angeles Times, 1962. The front pastedown shows an admission ticket for Lecture 2 of Nathaniel Branden's course on Rand's philosophy for Feb 14, 1967, the date of Rand's inscription. Rand often participated in the Q and A sessions of the opening lectures of this 20 lecture course. No other writings or markings in this very near-fine copy in a bright jacket. While many Rand collections contain one or both states of the Signed Limited Edition of Capitalism, few boast a signed, jacketed first edition, seldom seen in this condition. Book #P1405. $3250. From the world's largest collection of rare, signed, and manuscript Ayn Rand in private hands.

Synopsis

The foundations of capitalism are being battered by a flood of altruism, which is the cause of the modern world's collapse. This is the view of Ayn Rand, a view so radically opposed to prevailing attitudes that it constitutes a major philosophic revolution. In this series of essays, she presents her stand on the persecution of big business, the causes of war, the default of conservatism, and the evils of altruism. Here is a challenging new look at modern society by one of the most provocative intellectuals on the American scene. This edition includes two articles by Ayn Rand which did not appear in the hardcover edition: The Wreckage of the Consensus," which presents the Objectivists views on Vietnam and the draft; and Requiem for Man," an answer to the Papal encyclical Progresso Populorum.
