In 1859, Lieutenant John Mullan was tasked with building a wagon road from Fort Walla Walla in Washington Territory to Fort Benton on the Missouri River. After two years and 611 miles he got it done. Full black cloth covered boards, gilt lettering on spine. Very good, no dust jacket as issued. Bumps to bottom tips of boards, head and heel of spine no longer crisp, binding lightly pushed at head of spine.
