[ENRICO CARUSO; OPERA STAR MEMORABILIA; CARICATURES] CARICATURES OF ENRICO CARUSO – Complete Collection Issued with the Approval of the Artist, 4th Edition, by Michael Sisca, Published by"La Follia Di New York", New York 1939, inscribed on title page "Al pregiato Musicista Antonio Marchesani, offro in segno di sinceca amicizia, Aida Favia-Artsay, Valhalla, NY, Aprile 22,1993", book 8-1/2" x 11", cover imitation dark blue pebbled leather with gilded autograph of Enrico Caruso, pages unnumbered/about 185 pages with caricatures on every page varying from full-page to up to 4 on a page except for the few beginning pages and 2 pages at the back which are copies of Caruso letters to Marziale Sisca; RARE, no editions recorded at WorldCat/OCLC (7/11/21), only two copies of the 4th edition found for sale online, no listings for any other edition (7/11/21); NOTES: Aida Favia-Artsay, discographer, author of "Caruso on Records"; Antonio Marchesani, musician, singer; Michael Sisca, son of Marziale Sisca, close friend of Caruso who with his brother Alessando founded the Italian newspaper "La Follia di New York" in 1892…having lunch with Caruso one day after meeting him by chance at the Metropolitan Opera, when Marziale Sisca asked him for a caricature to publish in his newspaper, Caruso gave him a caricature of himself and said he would send a caricature of someone each week to Marziale to publish in the paper /// CONDITION: very good-plus, small loss at top of spine, light offsetting on title page and facing page from something laid in at one time (not present), short tear about middle of back blank endpage with related creases, overall solid copy with firm hinges and tight text block. keywords: illustrated book, caricature, Enrico Caruso, entertainment memorabilia
