About This Item
Worcester, Massachusetts: Sanford and Davis, 1889 Original blue cloth; gilt spine; top edge gilt. Fourth edition; first in book form. Previously published in numbers in the "Worcester Palladium" of 1855; by request reprinted in that paper 1857-1858, and again in 1874. Frontispiece engraving by J.W. Barber represents a view of the north entrance to the village of Worcester in 1839. Historical accounts of early Worcester, a joint production of newspaper founder and editor Knowlton and writer Wheelock. Inscription on front endpaper from "E.O.P.L." to Francis H. Lee. Lee lived in Salem, Massachusetts and for a time was Curator of Numismatics at the Essex Institute. He seems to have been active in local historical affairs. Light-to-moderate rubbing of cover extremities. Clean and tight.
