Condition: Very Good-

Salisbury, North Carolina: A. W. Hartung. Very Good-. 1960. First Edition. Paperback. Plastic Comb binds Paper Covers. Very minor wear and soil on the sound binding. Very occasional, barely noticeable light yellow highlighting and pen check marks, with a few penned entries in the bottom margins (I noticed two, can't guarantee that there might not be one or two more) , otherwise the contents are clean and unworn. ; 8-1/2" Tall, 128pp. Cprt. 1960. Dark brown plastic comb, light brown paper covers with black lettering and design on the front cover. ANTIQUES. "Until this book, there has been no organized attempt to sort and classify the innumerable patterns used in the field of Carnival glass. This book is an effort to point the way toward a more orderly classification of the patterns of Carnival glass, with no claim to final authority in the subject. The exact process used to give it the beautiful iridescence that sets it apart has been lost; present day attempts to produce it have so far failed so we may assume that no one can define the ingredients used exactly. As the title indicates the main concern here has been not with the shades of coloring, although when such information has been available it is given - the problem of the patterns themselves has been primary. Many pieces of Carnival glass carry two different patterns - one on the exterior and another quite different one on the interior. In these cases, the rule has been to sketch the dominant pattern in accurate detail, and then to describe the alternate pattern as vividly as possible. Occasionally both patterns were sketched. " The book presents one drawing on the top half of the page and text concerning that drawing on the bottom half. The sketches are by Dick Bulla. Index. .
