Illustrated with photos. Oscar J. Coffin (1887-1956) was a newspaperman, journalist, and the dean of the School of Journalism at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He was the editor of the Charlotte Observer from 1912 to 1916 and was the editor of the Raleigh Times 1918-1926. In 1926 he returned to his home of Chapel Hill and succeeded Gerald W. Johnson as a professor of Journalism. He became the first Dean of the School of Journalism when it was created.
