Beige cloth boards and spine with green and red decorations on the spine with title outlined in green shadowbox; title and red sword on front board. Clean internals. Interior hinges are sound and not split. 374 pp 8vo. This is a historical novel of the life of COL Henry Carrington, the senior officer in the Fetterman massacre in 1866. Although LTC Fetterman was acting in defiance of direct orders, Carrington took the blame and was accused of cowardice and abandoned by friends and his wife. The author captures the smell of battle and his insight into the lives of the men and women in a tormented battalion on a hazardous frontier make this a novel to rate with other first-rate novels of the West. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
