Author/illustrator Theodore Geisel (Dr. Suess is a pen name) was asked to come up with an alternative early reading primer to Dick and Jane stories. The Cat in the Hat has been adapted into a television show, a musical and a film. The book has sold more than 10 million copies and is a children's best seller.
