Paris: Imprimerie Royale, 1739-44 & 1739-53. First Editions, a complete set of all that was published of this great cataloguing project of the French Royal Library. The project was begun under the direction of French scholar and member of the Académie Française, the abbé Jean-Paul Bignon [1662-1743], who was appointed Royal Librarian in 1718. The catalogue of manuscripts, of which only the Oriental and Classical sections were completed, was edited by Anicet Melot [1697-1759], antiquary and custodian of manuscripts at the library, with the assistance in Volume I of orientalist Étienne Fourmont [1683-1745]. French ecclesiastic and philologist, Claude Sallier [1685-1761], professor of Hebrew at the Collège Royale and custodian of books at the Bibliothèque Royale, edited the catalogue of printed books with scholar and historian, Pierre Jean Boudot [1689-1771] and Anicet Melot (Melot was responsible for the section on jurisprudence). Of this catalogue only the sections on Theology, Literature, and one volume of the section on Law were completed.
