About This Item

Washington, D. C.: Smithsonian Institution Press, 1996. Bright, clean, square, tight, unmarked copy. Sharp corners. No chips or tears. No owner's name or bookplate. No remainder mark. Photo illustrated. Autobiography of 4-star Army General Hamilton Howze. From the Dust Jacket: "He began his career as a horse soldier, commanded a tank regiment in World War II, and retired as an accomplished sky cavalry tactician." It was in the mid-1950's that General Howze pioneered the concept of air cavalry and instituted the widespread use of helicopters in providing fire power, mobility, intelligence, and logistical support. As the first director of Army Aviation, he was the driving force behind the Army's airmobile tactics and doctrine. Implementation of the Howze Board's recommendations to Defense Secretary Robert McNamara ultimately proved the viability of sky cavalry in combat. His last military assignment was as commander of United States Forces in Korea. First Printing of the First Edition. Hardcover. Fine condition/Near Fine dust jacket. 8vo. 316pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping.

About About Books

About Books (Genny and Michael Winne, proprietors, formerly of Parsippany, New Jersey) has been selling rare and OP books since 1985. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines. Our inventory of over 40,000 volumes is especially strong in the specialties listed, but contains fine books in a variety of other fields as well. Because most of our books are stored in protective boxes, rather than on shelves, they cannot be viewed as a whole. If you wish to visit us to examine specific titles, please provide 24 hours notice and we will make them available for your inspection. Phone calls to (702) 750-2722 are welcome, but please, only between the hours of 8am and 10pm (west coast time).
