"Robert Ellison was rich and young, with a hobby for collecting pieces of art. So when his Italian agent cabled him that he had discovered a genuine Cellini Plaque, he lost no time in crossing the Atlantic…" – From the dust jacket

A wonderful mystery of art, swindles, a great con man, and romance.A wealthy young art collector travels to Italy in the hopes of purchasing a Cellini. He falls for a girl, finds out her father is the man trying to sell the Cellini and he proves to be "…devilishly clever. He was a magnificent rascal, and in his own way, an idealist".
