Dea Moines, IA: State Register, 1876. First Edition. Hardcover. Acceptable. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 8 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches. 339, [ads 20] pp. 3 figures, index; text unmarked, occasional foxing or spotting. Quarter pebbled cloth, marbled boards; spine chipped with 4 inches of loss at the foot, and about an inch of loss at the head, boards rubbed, some light staining to edges of text block. SCARCE in the trade. Good. Title page lists J. M. Dixon as "Blind Editor" and Mrs. J. M. Dixon and J. W. Doughty as amanuenses. Joseph M. Dixon was the editor of the Iowa Citizen newspaper of Des Moines who lost his eye sight. He also wrote The Valley and the Shadow: Comprising the Experiences of a Blind Ex-Editor (1868). He dictated this history of Polk County, Iowa to his wife and his wife's brother, J. M. Doughery. Des Moines is the county seat of Polk County and the capital of city of Iowa. It is also the most populous county of the state.
