Nice condition volume of "The Century Illustrated Monthly Magazine" containing six bound issues, May to October 1883. Published by The Century Co. in New York. Volume IV. This issue features three installments of "NIGHTS WITH UNCLE REMUS" by Joel Chandler Harris. Other content includes Washington on the Eve of War, Longfellow, Indian War in the Colonies, Cape Cod, Black Bass Fishing, The Aborigines and the Colonists, In the Footsteps of Thackeray, Through Water-Spout and Typhoon - A Story of the Tropics, Snipe-Shooting, Characteristics of London, Old New York and its Houses, A Musk-Ox Hunt...and much more. There are illustrations throughout, some of which are full-page.
Condition:
Clean covers and spine. The top-left corner of the back cover is worn. Light wear to the leather along the edges of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Bright gilt lettering on the spine. Nice interior - the pages are clean with only an occasional light smudges here and there. "State Teacher's Library" ink stamp on front end papers, label affixed to front pastedown, and embossed stamp at the bottom of the title page. "Gorham State College Library" stamped in ink at the top edge of the text block. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
