In his youth a laissez-faire conservative, White was convinced by Theodore Roosevelt that regulation of business and other parts of the progressive program were necessary. According to the Dictionary of American Biography, "In Kansas he worked to build up a reform-minded antirailroad wing of the Republican party. You can place credit card orders through Biblio, or we will ship upon receipt of payment by check or money order.
