About This Item

Sydney: Doak Press, 1975. Paperback oblong quarto, good plus condition, black & white photos, maps, toning inside covers, pages lightly toned, edges lightly foxed, light foxing covers, bottom corner tip front cover creased, minor edgewear. 96 pp. This book by Max Kelly is a photographic documentary of Sydney in the year 1900, showing a Sydney that is currently fairly unknown (the first few years of the 20th century.) The book tries to resurrect a life in run-down slums of Sydney that has been largely forgotten, such as The Rocks, Chinatown and Surry Hills. The many photos by pioneer photographer Noel Sweeney will interest anyone wanting to know about the early history of Sydney. (Unnumbered pages.).
