About This Item

Miami: A.P.A., 1970. First Edition. Octavo (21.5cm.); bifolium printed from typescript; Fine. Short address delivered at the meeting of the American Psychological Association, Miami, 1970. "The doctrine of male supremacy (especially outside homelife) is now in direct opposition to the principle of non-discrimination. If it is right and just to treat minority groups as people then it is inescapable that it is right and just to treat women as people" (p.2). Gardner goes on to ask: "What role can men play in the changing of society?", followed by a list of six concrete suggestions. Gardner, an Irish-born mathematician, is best known for his statistical work which would lead to the banning of classified ads segregated by gender in the 1973 Supreme Court ruling in the case Pittsburgh Press Co. v. Pittsburgh Commission on Human Rights. One copy of this flyer located in OCLC as of August, 2018, at U. Waterloo (Ontario).
