One of his books became a standard text-book that is still in use in Universities today. This book about Hawiian volcanoes includes a total of 16 plates that include fold-out maps, double page maps, single page maps, and photographs. Also includes 60 illustrations in the text. All illustrations, maps, and photographs are present and clean. Ex-library. Library stamp on front pastedown, library numbers on spine, age tonning to rear pastedown. Text clean and bright with no marks. Both ends of spines bumped, corners gently rubbed. Top edge of front board has a dent with a spot of missing cloth. Ships same or next business day well protected in a box. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 399 pages .

Hbk 1st American edition royal 8vo 399pp with 16 plates and maps (4 folding, including frontispiece) and numerous text illustrations no dj as issued red and black cloth with gilt spine titles and gilt top foredge, spine top and tail frayed, corners good although gently bumped and worn (now in custom acetate jacket) all fold-outs intact no foxing to the text and only a hint of toning, some evidence of previous library ownership (ÒdiscardÓ stamp on front and rear pastedowns and what seems to have been an old shelfmark label on the spine) otherwise a very good clean tight copy of this hard-to-find scientific treatise
