About This Item

Salisbury, Qld.: Stuart Scott, 2008. 129pp, num bw & col ills. Or pictorial card covers. Near new with slight bump to top of spine. SIGNED by author with year inside front cover, plus looslely inserted slip with All the Best Scott Stewart in red. This first (and thus far, only) edition was limited to only 1000 copies. Tall tales and true from the Peter Badcoe Club, 1ALSG, Back Beach, Vung Tau, South Vietnam. For 6 years the defining elements of Australian youth of the 1960s & 1970s (the Vietnam War, surfing and rock'n'roll) came together on a wide beach in South Vietnam. The Army built a clubhouse so the troops could stow their weapons, have a hot shower, change into civvies, and enjoy a burger and beer with mates. It also provided the surfboards, and fortified the beach with barbed wire and machine gun emplacements. This was Australia's own surfing enclave on the South China Sea- the Viet Cong-aka the VC or Victor Charlie, or just plain Charlie-most definitely didn't surf there.. Signed by the Author. First Edition. Soft Cover. Near Fine. 8vo.
