Octavo (8 3/4" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to spine and decorative stamp on front cover in pictorial dust jacket with a black and red globe with chess pieces on it and white lettering. Signature card laid-in (Betts:24-46) First edition.

A vivid record of activities in the leading chess centers of the world (1953) with fifty examples of brilliant games played by modern chess-masters. The games include masterpieces by Alekhine, Botvinnik, Euwe, Fine, Horowitz, Kashdan, Keres, Najdorf, Pinkus, Reshevsky, Smyslov, Stahlberg and other experts. Each game is profusely illustrated. Introductions and explanatory notes to moves provide the reader with both entertainment and instruction (front flap)

Condition:

Signature card laid in with date 9 Nov 1959 on verso. Spine ends and points rubbed, corners bumped. Dust jacket spine ends and corners chipped, edge wear with some chips and tears. Over all a very good copy in a very good dust jacket.
