55 pages with illustrations, diagrams and problem index. Royal octavo (9 1/4" x 6") bound in original publisher's red cloth with gilt pictorial and lettering to front cover.inscribed by the author. (Betts 43-45) First edition.
Chiefly a miscellany of articles and extracts from chess literature. Includes "Anecdotes and witticisms from various sources", "Various references to chess", a chapter on the "The hobby of collecting chess pieces", and a problem section containing 21 unusual compositions by various composers, with commentary by A J Souweine. The section on chess references comprises a partial list of periodical and other references, 1697-1931.
Condition:
Inscribed on front end paper, light rubbed to spine else a very good to fine copy.
