Translated from the French by Carol Dunlop-Hebert. 8vo up to 9½" tall., 198pp. Quarter black cloth over orange boards, gilt spine titles. Both volume and unclipped dustjacket are in fine condition; appears unread. Protected in a mylar jacket removed only for taking of pictures. First published in 1975 as "Les Enfants du sabbat. Set in Quebec, 1944, Hebert presents a dualistic perception of existence where witchcraft, demonic possession, exorcism, and satanic initiation find their corollaries in prayers, dedication to God, Mass, and initiation into cloistered life. "One of the greatest horror novels you've never read". Anne Hébert (1916-2000) was a Canadian author and poet. She won Canada's top literary honor, the Governor General's Award, three times, twice for fiction and once for poetry. Her work has been translated into seven languages and her novels are recognized as masterpieces of contemporary French fiction.
